Please, people. Stop with the House hate.

There are kind Slytherins.

There are brave Hufflepuffs.

There are some stupid Ravenclaws.

There are twisted Gryffindors.

Your House doesn’t define you.

And please, the next time you’re about to tease someone for being a lowly Hufflepuff, or a slimy Slytherin, or a stuck up Ravenclaw or even a foolish Gryffindor, just remember that we are all Hogwarts students. We’re all part of the magic.

I really do agree with this but I am going to say a little comment on the ‘stupid Ravenclaw’ thing.

Okay so I am a firm believer in different types of inteligence, while lockhart is stupid in the traditional sense he’s increadibly smart in other areas. How else could he have manipulated the situation so well to become famous and earn all that money?

So yeah; I just wanted to say that.

All of these people display their house traits while subverting stereotypes associated with them.

Slughorn, Snape, and Draco. Slughorn isn’t evil, but he is ambitious and likes to be connected to the important names. Snape isn’t evil… at least not in the way that Voldemort, Bellatrix, and most of the other Death Eaters were. He was unnecessarily cruel to Harry, but he didn’t try to kill him. His ambition and cunning are obvious. Draco is the same deal. Not evil, but he was ambitious and wanted to live up to his family name and please his father… as well as protect his family once Voldemort made him his pawn.

Tonks and Cedric Diggory. Tonks has all the brash bravery of a Gryffindor, but all of the best things about Hufflepuff are there too. She’s loyal, patient (especially with Remus), hardworking and fair. Cedric was amazingly brave, but he was definitely, unmistakably Hufflepuff.

Lockheart may have not been the most, ehem, ethical or adept wizard, but coming up with the scheme of the century and perpetrating it as long as he did took no short measure of wits and intelligence. He’s got the ambition of a Slytherin with the sharp intellect of a Ravenclaw to put his plans into motion. Luna was a Ravenclaw with both Hufflepuff and Gryffindor qualities. And she attempted to be friendly with folks from all four Houses.

The defining characteristics of Gryffindor are chivalry and bravery. Now, looking at Pettigrew, you would think he was wildly misplaced. But, no. If nothing else, his actions in Deathly Hallows (specifically the ones that led to his demise) was pretty chivalrous. He was the oddest mix of Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Gryffindor.

This is why fandom has come up with terms like “Gryffinclaw” (Like Hermione), “Huffledor” (Like Tonks and Cedric), Slytherclaw (Snape, most certainly), and Ravenpuff (I can’t think of anyone canon for this one)… and all the other possible portmanteaus of the houses.

Nobody is JUST one or two things. The best characters and even the simplest people are multidimensional.

I am a Gryffinclaw by self-declaration. Sorting Hat tests are not flawless. You should know, as Harry knew, what you are. But you should also know, as Harry learned, that it doesn’t matter what House you’re in when you all share a commonality. I hate the portrayal I see of most Slytherins. Besides Slughorn and Snape, I’m sure others were aligned with the Hogwarts forces against Dumbledore during that final battle. Slytherins are not inherently evil. They may not always be the warmest or the nicest of people, but they are not born evil.

I just want to hug this commentary. This is just fabulous commentary and I love it and guys read it!
